Leopold-Ullstein-Schule meets Nelson Mandela School [en]

„Ich bin ein Berliner“ is a famous quote by John F. Kennedy. Our social worker Mr. Lewicki wanted to create a project basing on the quote by John F.  Kennedy for a class (Nelson Mandela School , 6th Grade) with us as a project in our English lessons. We started brainstorming and assigned all tasks. After completing the schedule for the project, we invited the kids officially.

On 27th of June (day of the project) we started quite early (7am) to prepare the lunch (Schusterjungen – typical food in Berlin / type of bread) for all 60 participants. Later the kids (from Nelson Mandela School) came to our school and we received them with cheers. Because we had such a big group of people we splitted  into 5 groups, and explained the kids what we are going to do.

Then we went to Schloss Charlottenburg by subway. Standing in front of Schloss Charlottenburg two of us made a small speech about its history. We walked into the park, until we arrived at a big lawn where  we played the first game called “Berlin Gate”. After successfully completing the first tasks given in this game, everyone was “christened” with Spree-water .  Now it was time to start the big challenge we’d  prepared. The five groups received GPS-devices and geographic coordinates (the locations where we placed challenges) and started to walk across the park. Anytime a group arrived at one challenge location they had to solve a riddle which was fun for all of us.
